20+ Years Experience

LASIK is correction of Cornea and what if it get done by a Cornea Surgeon like Dr. Vikas Mittal with 20+ years experience?
Eyes ICl Surgery in Ambala

Implantable Collamer Lens Surgery

The primary purpose of ICL is to correct the vision problem and to reduce or remove the patient’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

The ICL surgery does not tamper with the stability of the cornea as no corneal flap is raised, nor is any corneal tissue removed as in LASIK. Because of the very small incision, about 3.5 mm, the procedure and recovery time is reduced dramatically.

Who is the ideal candidate for ICL Surgery?

The LASIK surgery is not for everyone and has some limitations due to which it can’t be performed for example patients with thin Cornea are not eligible for LASIK Surgery.

ICL, or Implantable Collamer Lens, surgery is an alternative vision correction procedure for those who are not suitable candidates for LASIK or other laser eye surgeries. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with thin corneas, high levels of nearsightedness (myopia), or those with dry eyes.

Cornea Thickness

Why doctor deny some patients to do LASIK LASER Surgery and suggest them ICL Surgery?

When a patient comes to our office for a LASIK screening, one of the first things we check for is cornea thickness. So why is cornea thickness important for LASIK? During LASIK, an excimer laser is used to remove tissue (ablation) and reshape the cornea so images can focus accurately onto the retina. Since corneal tissue is permanently removed during the LASIK procedure, we want to make sure there is enough tissue remaining to ensure the cornea is structurally safe.

The average corneal thickness is between 520 microns and 540 microns, however, the normal range for cornea thickness can range from as thin as 470 to as thick as 630 microns. In order to be a candidate for LASIK there needs to be enough corneal tissue to make a flap, take away the tissue in order to correct the refractive error, and still have enough corneal tissue to ensure that corneal ectasia, a progressive bulging of the cornea, does not occur.

If the cornea is not thick enough to result in a corneal bed, the remaining cornea beneath the flap, of approximately 300 microns then LASIK is likely not the best refractive procedure for you. During a refractive exam at LJ Eye Institute, the Cornea Specialist runs calculations to ensure that the cornea is thick enough for LASIK.

Benefits of ICL Surgery

In addition to improved vision, there are numerous benefits of an ICL:

– It can fix severe nearsightedness that can’t be corrected with other surgeries.

– The lens is less likely to cause dry eyes, which is ideal if your eyes are chronically dry.

– It’s meant to be permanent but can be removed.

– The lens provides great night vision.

– Recovery is usually quick because tissue isn’t removed.

– People who can’t get laser eye surgery might be good candidates for ICL.

Who is not suitable for ICL?
You have moderate to severe nearsightedness, all the way up to -20.0. You have corneal thickness or mapping not adequate for LASIK or PRK. You are a patient under 45 years old
Is ICL surgery good or bad?
Excellent Safety Profile. The ICL has an excellent safety profile documented for almost three decades. Studies have reported that the ICL provides one of the best postoperative results of all refractive procedures available in current practice. Most trials report a patient satisfaction rate of over 99%.
When is ICL better than LASIK?
LASIK is generally considered a safe and effective procedure for correcting myopia, with most patients achieving 20/20 vision or better. Regarding implanted contacts v. LASIK, ICL is a more invasive procedure, but it is also more effective and is better for people with higher degrees of myopia.
How long can ICL last?
These internal contact lenses are designed to last 100 years, so they should last you the rest of your life. However, there is a significant advantage to ICL over LASIK – if, for some reason, you are unhappy with the results, implantable contact lens surgery can be removed, unlike laser eye surgery.
Can I cry after ICL surgery?
It’s okay to cry after your LASIK surgery. Whatever the reason you may want to cry, natural tears won’t harm your eyes or delay the healing process. Crying may actually keep your eyes lubricated and that helps the healing process. In fact, many patients cry immediately upon sitting up after LASIK.
Can you sleep with ICL?
This procedure can be done at your eye doctor’s office and usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. The EVO Visian ICL works similarly to a contact lens, except it’s a permanent part of your eye.
How long is vision blurry after ICL?
Immediately after ICL surgery, you’re likely to experience slight discomfort, bloodshot eyes, and blurry vision for a short time, from a few hours up to 48 hours.
How many days rest required after ICL?
Surgeons often ask patients to refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous activities for a week or two following ICL surgery. You’ll need to show progress in small tasks before your surgeon will allow more complicated activities like driving or full-time work.

ICL: Is it for everyone?

ICL surgery isn’t safe for everyone. When considering the procedure, talk to a doctor to determine if it’s right for you. The surgery may not be a good choice if you:

are pregnant or breastfeeding

are younger than 21 years old

are 45 and older

have a chronic disease that causes hormone fluctuations

are taking medicine associated with vision changes

have a condition that inhibits proper wound healing

More than 3000 ICL Surgeries performed so far

ICL also does not cause any corneal dryness as seen in standard laser spec removal processes.

EVO – ICL

The Visian ICL is made from Collamer, a biocompatible material created and used exclusively by STAAR Surgical. This lens is able to treat a large range of refractive error varying by region. EVO+ continues the Evolution in Visual Freedom with an Expanded Optic designed for patients with larger pupils. Also made from Collamer, EVO+ is based on the proven EVO platform and is the newest generation of EVO lenses.
