Painless / Without Stitches Cataract Surgery
What is Cataract(The Disease)?
The eye is like a camera, pupil being like a shutter with a lens which functions similar to a camera lens. The lens bends the light rays to focus objects onto the retina lining the back of the eye. A cataract occurs when there is a buildup of proteins in the lens that make it cloudy. This prevents light from passing clearly through the lens, causing the diminution of vision.
What is Cataract Surgery(The Solution)?
Cataract Surgery removes the natural cloudy lens from the eye and replaces it with an artificial lens or an Intraocular lens (IOL). The most popular technique for cataract surgery is Phacoemulsification (“phaco” means lens and “emulsify” means to break into pieces) Cataract surgery at LJEI is customized. We make the surgery personalized as per each individual eye’s needs. Today, phacoemulsification is performed as an outpatient basis, under topical anesthesia or ‘eye drop’ anesthesia.
We at LJ Eye Institute also use the latest technique in phacoemulsification cataract surgery called Micro phacoemulsification (MICS) using the cold phaco technology. Cold phaco is a sophisticated innovation which enables us to do cataract surgery with a micro-incision of less than 1 mm. It helps in faster visual restoration and least post-operative discomfort.
