What is Glaucoma?
There are several types of glaucoma, but the most common forms include primary open-angle glaucoma and angle-closure glaucoma.
1. Primary open-angle glaucoma: This is the most common type, usually developing gradually and painlessly. In this condition, the drainage angle of the eye remains open, but the trabecular meshwork, responsible for draining aqueous humor (the fluid within the eye), becomes less efficient, leading to increased intraocular pressure.
2. Angle-closure glaucoma: In this less common form, the drainage angle of the eye becomes blocked or narrowed, causing a sudden increase in intraocular pressure. This can lead to symptoms such as severe eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and halos around lights.
